Our People

“Anything bad is good, and everything good is great.”
These are some words I’ve only recently started to live by. They’ve become important to me because all around me, I’ve noticed that people resort to anger and screaming when something doesn’t go right. I’m a positive person who is full of energy. I’ve gone through a lot in my short sixteen years of living, and no matter what there’s always a solution. I love to model, write, and I have a striving passion for activism. I have a drive to fix our community and to create a safe space for every one.

I’m from El Salvador. I grew up there with my sister and my grandparents. When I was in my country, I was always in trouble and fighting. My grandfather used to tell me that he believed I was going to change one day and that he was going to be the happiest man in the world. A few year later, I had to come to the USA, where my mother was. For me, this was a hard decision.  That was when I made the difficult decision that I had to change how I live my life. Now I’m in the top 10 best students. I’m proud of myself and I know my grandfather is too.  It is never too late to make a change.

I describe myself as optimistic. No matter what happens, I try to see a light in it. Art and I have been together since Elementary School. Art has been the anchor for me through hard times and it helps to speak with paint rather than words. I want to be there for anyone who needs someone to talk to.

I am someone who believes you can do whatever you want to, even if people say you can’t. If I was given a choice of what I could do for a living I would choose entertainment.  Back in middle school, I performed in Musicals and I found it exhilarating to be in front of large crowds. Growing up, I never really saw any of the injustices going on, but recently I have seen the horrible things going on in our country. I am happy to make a difference, even if it is only a small one.

“If you don’t believe in yourself, nobody else will believe in you.”
I came from a different country where I felt like I had to fit in instead of being myself. I feel the same way in America. People made fun of me because my hair is too curly and because I don’t have “the perfect body.” The criticisms make me stronger. I worked hard to prove that Latin women come in all shapes and sizes and can speak fluent English even if it is not their first language. I’m Yasiris and I work hard towards my dreams.

“It doesn't matter how many times you get knocked down. The only thing that matters is how many times you get up.”
I was born in Ecuador. My mom came to the United States when I was a 1 year old child. I stayed with my grandmother since my father was not present. I have gone through a lot of things that made me think I should give up, but I won’t give up. Today, I am in a place where I can learn English all the time and learn from people like I wanted to. It wasn't always the easiest path to take. Still, I keep moving forward and making my dreams come true, one day at a time.

I’m just a boy who is trying to figure out what to do with my life.  But one thing that sets me apart from most people is my willingness to help everyone.  I feel like helping people with problems is the best thing you can do. This group is helping me complete that goal. -Gabe

I’ve always had a hard time expressing myself until I found graffiti and stickers. From there I found clothing brands as a way of communicating self-love and positivity. I one day want to create a clothing brand named “DYNSTY” with my best friend. I want everyone to know about love, peace, and positivity through me and my work. I’ll never give up on my dream. It’s all positive vibes.

My name is vanessa. I am Colombian. I came to this country when I was 14 years old. My passions are dancing or skating, that helps me stay relaxed and not think of negative things. I love it when I can help people, because I know what it is to be alone and it is really a bad thing.I think everyone needs to be around people that makes them feel good and you also need to believe in yourself.
